The DISC Accreditation and Training Process

QUICK SUMMARY:

DISC is one of the world’s most widely used behavioural assessment models. Developed from the work of American psychologist William Moulton Marston, the DISC model provides a framework for understanding differences in communication, behaviour, motivation and the way people tend to respond to different situations.

For many people, understanding the basics of DISC is only the starting point. DISC accreditation provides the training and practical skills needed to administer assessments, interpret profiles, provide feedback and use DISC confidently with individuals, teams and organisations.

InterACT-Global has been providing the DISC assessment, along with many other psychometric assessments, training and consulting support for more than 20 years. Our team includes experienced consultants and industrial psychologists who work with organisations and professionals across Australia, South Africa and internationally.

Our DISC accreditation is designed to give participants a practical understanding of DISC and the confidence to use it in the situations where it can provide the most value.

What is the DISC accreditation training course?

Our two-day DISC accreditation course covers both the underlying theory of DISC and the practical skills needed to use DISC assessments professionally.

The training includes:

  • Understanding the DISC behavioural model and its underlying theory
  • Administering DISC assessments
  • Understanding and interpreting DISC profiles
  • Identifying behavioural patterns and preferences
  • Providing effective feedback on DISC results
  • Using DISC with individuals and teams
  • Applying DISC to communication and interpersonal relationships
  • Using DISC in recruitment and candidate selection
  • Applying DISC to leadership and management development
  • Using DISC for coaching, employee development and team development
  • Understanding how DISC can be applied in different workplace situations
  • Practical exercises and discussion to build confidence in interpreting and using DISC results

The purpose of the training is not simply to teach participants what the four DISC factors mean. It is to help them understand how to work with DISC assessments in practice.

You should leave the course able to interpret a DISC profile, discuss the results clearly with an individual or group, and consider how the information can be applied to the situation in front of you.

Building your practical DISC capability

There is a significant difference between understanding the DISC model and feeling comfortable using DISC with another person.

For that reason, our training places a strong emphasis on practical application. Participants work with DISC assessments, interpret profiles, discuss results and consider how the information can be used in real workplace situations.

DISC can also be used in many different contexts. A coach may use it with an individual client, an HR professional may incorporate it into recruitment or employee development, a manager may use it with a team, and a consultant may use it as part of leadership or team development.

Our aim is to ensure participants feel equipped to use DISC effectively across these different situations, rather than being trained for only one particular application.

What the accreditation course involves

The accreditation is delivered over two days, with online training available and face-to-face delivery available by arrangement.

The training combines instruction, discussion, practical application and profile interpretation. On completion, participants receive their DISC accreditation and certificate. In South Africa, the course also provides 12 HPCSA CPD points.

You also receive your own personal account on the InterACT-Global assessment platform, allowing you to administer DISC assessments and generate professional reports for your organisation or clients.

There are no ongoing licence fees and assessments do not expire, so you can continue using DISC in your work after completing the accreditation.

Who is DISC accreditation for?

People attend DISC accreditation for a range of professional reasons.

  • HR, People & Culture and Talent professionals may want to use DISC in recruitment, employee development, leadership development, communication or team initiatives.
  • Managers and leaders may want to develop a stronger understanding of behavioural differences and use DISC with their teams or as part of their own leadership development.
  • Recruiters can use DISC as part of a broader recruitment and selection process where understanding behavioural preferences is relevant to the role.
  • Coaches and consultants may incorporate DISC into coaching programs, leadership development, team workshops, communication programs or other work with clients.
  • Students and developing practitioners may be looking to build their knowledge and practical capability in psychometric assessment as part of their professional development.

Some participants attend because they want to use DISC within their own organisation, while others want to add DISC to an existing coaching, consulting, recruitment or HR service. The training is designed to support both.

What can you use DISC accreditation for?

Once accredited, practitioners can use DISC across a wide range of applications, including:

  • Recruitment and selection
Understand behavioural preferences and support conversations around role requirements, communication and working style.
  • Leadership development
Help leaders understand their own behavioural preferences and consider how they may adapt their approach to different people and situations.
  • Team development
Give teams a practical framework for understanding behavioural differences and improving communication and working relationships.
  • Coaching and individual development
Use DISC profiles to explore communication, behavioural strengths, development areas and working preferences.
  • Employee development
Help individuals understand their own behavioural style and consider how they may adapt their approach in different workplace situations.

The value of DISC comes from being able to apply the information appropriately. Our accreditation is designed to give practitioners the knowledge, assessment tools and practical confidence to do that.
